Clarehill Plastics Excels In 13th Environmental Benchmarking Survey!
5th December 2011
Clarehill Plastics have achieved a Quintile 1 position in the Northern Ireland 13th Environmental Benchmarking Survey, carried out by Arena Network and verified by Acona Partners LLP.
Each year, 250 leading organisations in Northern Ireland are invited to take part in the Northern Ireland Environmental Benchmarking Survey. The survey is a key driver for environmental management and improvement and has helped numerous business across the province to achieve more sustainable ways of doing business.
Clarehill Plastics Ltd has been an active participant in the survey for several years now and has steadily improved its performance year on year. Given the company's stance as an environmentally responsible manufacturer, the Environmental Benchmarking Survey is a key factor in influencing the company's environmental policies.
This year, Clarehill Plastics achieved a Quintile 1 position in the survey results and achieved an overall position of 23rd. Within the manufacturing sector, Clarehill achieved the 3rd highest score, behind Seagate technology and Michelin.
Clarehill has always had a central focus on environmental responsibility and in recent years, has promoted the use of bunded (or double walled) oil tanks in place of more environmentally risky single skin models, which pose a very real threat to the environment in cases where such tanks may leak. Bunded tanks consist of a tank within a tank design, with the outer tank being capable of holding 110% of the inner tank's capacity. In its efforts to fully promote safer tank manufacturing, the company removed all single skin oil tanks from its price lists and literature and also decided to promote and participate in the ERA (environmental risk assessment) tank labelling scheme, whereby all tanks are issued with an ERA rating (of between 1 and 10) , which aims to reflect the risk posed by the tank to the environment.
As part of the Environmental Benchmarking Survey, Clarehill was required to answer questions on Environmental Management, Corporate Strategy, Integration, Performance and Assurance. While the average score from the survey results was down from 72% in 2010 to 68% in 2011, Clarehill's performance record improved overall, with the company achieving an overall score of between 80-90% - well above the General Manufacturing sector average of 69%!
Clarehill Plastics will continue to strive in its efforts to maintain andimprove environmental management in 2012 and looks forward to achieving even greater success in next year's survey!
