Harlequin MD Steps Down From CBI SME Council

7th July 2011

Brian McCann, Clarehill Plastics MD, has recently stood down from the CBI SME council after the completion of his second three year term.

During Mr. McCann's time on the council, the position of small to medium enterprises (SME’s) has moved further to centre stage, which only serves to reflect the importance of this sector.

95% of all companies in the UK are currently classified as SME’s (meaning they employ anything from 1 – 250 employees and have a turnover of up to £50M). Clarehill Plastics itself is classified as a medium sized enterprise in the SME spectrum.

Speaking on his decision to step down, Brian commented that "serving on the SME council has been a very useful experience. The firepower that the CBI can bring to formulating solutions to the business issues faced by companies across the UK is unrivalled. With 200+ policy staff serving in the central offices in London, the council provides invaluable guidance to government on business related policy."

Asked if there were any aspects of sitting on the council that he would not miss, Mr. McCann joked that he will not miss the four o’clock starts to catch the early morning flights to London!
