Harlequin At FPS Expo 2009
6th May 2009
Organised by the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers, FPS Expo is the largest exhibition of its type for the downstream oil industry in Western Europe, bringing together over 2,000 industry professionals and over 100 exhibitors under one roof. Held annually at locations throughout the British Isles, this year it was the turn of the historic spa town of Harrogate, North Yorkshire to host the Harlequin sponsored and supported event.
Since Harlequin first exhibited at FPS Expo in 2000, the event has become a focal point for the launch of new products and the preview of new technologies. And FPS 2009 was no different, with the company previewing a new Bunded Heating Oil Tank, three all-new portable dispensing tanks, and officially launching the company’s revised range of Bunded Fuel Station and Bunded Fuel Point Diesel Storage Tanks.
New Harlequin 2500BND/ENV Bunded Oil Tank
Recent years, have seen Bunded Tanks largely supersede old fashioned Single Skin Tanks – driven by regulatory change and an appreciation of the environmental performance advantages that Bunded Tanks uniquely afford. Recognising the importance of Bunded Tanks to Harlequin sales, at FPS 2009 the company announced a new addition to the company's range of Bunded Heating Oil Storage Tanks, with the preview of an all-new 2,500 litre model.
Designed primarily for mid size domestic and smaller commercial installations, the new 2500BND/ENV combines almost three decades experience in the design, development and manufacture of rotationally moulded oil storage tanks, with the very latest fuel storage technology. Standard equipment includes an Apollo electronic oil tank contents gauge, bund warning alarm, tank fitting kit, integral venting - together with a choice of top or bottom outlet. And of course, like all Harlequin Heating Oil Tanks - lockable fill and inspection points are factory fitted as standard.
Harlequin's Marketing Manager John Switzer says, "The new 2500BND/ENV has been engineered to exceed the requirements of technicians, homeowners and householders, at larger heating oil storage installations.
"Whilst boasting an inherently useful 2,500 litres capacity, the new model is up to 300mm narrower and up to 400mm shorter than some superficially, comparable products. At a time when counting the pennies has never been more important, the result is a product which is easier and cheaper to install. For ease of delivery to site, it can also fit with ease into the back of most popular panel vans, including Ford Transit, LDV Maxus and Vauxhall Movano type vehicles."
Harlequin ‘Stores’ a Surprise for FPS Expo
FPS Expo also saw Harlequin preview its all-new range of 'Stores' portable fuel storage and dispensing tanks. Set to be manufactured and sold under the ‘Stores’ brand, the range will initially consist of four different 430 litres capacity models. The SD430 'StoresDiesel' and SB430 'Stores Bio' are suitable for use with Diesel and BioDiesel respectively. The SL430 'StoresLube' is suitable for use with most lubricating oils. And the SW430 'StoresWater', is suitable for the storage and dispensing of Non Potable Water.
Designed to simply strap on to the back of a pick up truck, each model is ideal for site use, allowing site operators to fill up at a bulk on-site storage tank or retail forecourt, and transport the fuel they need to on-site plant and equipment. The result is a highly efficient, yet inherently flexible refuelling concept, which maximises on-site productivity and minimises unscheduled downtime.
"The Stores range has been engineered to satisfy the liquid storage and dispensing requirements of site operators across Europe. It is the result of an intensive pan European, product development process, during which we have examined and re-examined end-user requirements.” explains John.
"Rather than simply launching a 'me too' portable storage and dispensing tank, we've striven to redefine the concept, by listening to the experiences of potential customers and end-users. For instance, many people we spoke to found the 2 way forklift access that typifies many superficially similar products to be limiting. So we've made sure that each Stores model has 4 way forklift access.”
The Best Diesel Storage Tanks just got better!
Also at FPS Expo, Harlequin unveiled a new generation of Fuel Point Diesel Storage and Dispensing Tanks at FPS2009. The new generation models benefit from the addition of faster mains voltage pumps, new capacities and enhanced product specifications.
High performance pumps are now standard across the highly successful Fuel Point range, with nominal flow rates of up to 60 litres per minute. Also available as an extra cost option on all Fuel Point models is a new 10 micron particulate filter. Designed to remove contaminants from Diesel fuel, this is quite simply a 'must have' feature for anyone running modern, high efficiency, diesel fueled plant and equipment.
An all-new 5,000 litre model joins the company's existing 1,400 litre and 2,500 litre Fuel Points at FPS2009. Featuring the same high performance fuel dispensing system as its smaller capacity counterparts, the 5000FP adds an electronic oil tank contents gauge and a bund warning alarm, to create a value for money, regulatory compliant, diesel storage and dispensing solution for larger users.
Harlequin also announced significant revisions to the company's market leading Fuel Station range at FPS2009. Recognising that fuel and water don't mix, an optional 30 micron integrated particulate and water filtration system can now be specified on all Harlequin Fuel Stations as a no-cost option.
Previewed at FPS208, 'Run Dry Protection' is also now available at additional cost on all 2009 Model Year Fuel Station models. Designed to protect the fuel delivery system, power is automatically isolated in the event the tank becomes empty. Once the tank is refueled, power is automatically restored and the system reverts to normal operation.
Revised filter and pump protection options have been complemented by several important model specific enhancements.
The entry-level 1,400 litre Fuel Station is now supplied with a mechanical flow meter as standard, whilst a 6 metre hose is now available as a no cost option on all 2,500 litre models. High flow 72 litre per minute pumps are also now available on all 240 volts mains powered Fuel Stations with a capacity of 2,500 litres or greater; and mains voltage 5,000 litre and 10,000 litre Fuel Stations get a new premium quality, factory fitted tank measurement system.
Harlequin’s David Cather says, "Harlequin Fuel Stations and Fuel Points are dedicated, purpose designed, Diesel storage systems - not simply a heating oil tank with a cabinet stuck on the side, or a pump bolted on top. The Fuel Point range represents incredible value for money, whilst the Fuel Station range is quite simply the most advanced Diesel storage solution available from any British or European supplier.
"Both ranges enjoy market leading positions within their respective sectors. Indeed, such has been the success of the Fuel Station range in particular, that the term 'Fuel Station' has become a byword for Diesel Storage Tanks, almost irrespective of manufacturer. These latest revisions, together with the introduction of a new 'Everyday Value Pricing' strategy across the Fuel Station and Fuel Point range, ensure these latest generation products are well positioned to build upon the success of their predecessors."
