Wales Oil Storage Regulations 2016

The impending Control of Pollution (Oil Storage) (Wales) Regulations 2015 have now passed the consultation stage and are waiting Ministerial signing which is expected to take place early next year. 

The immediate implication of these Regulations are that from the date of enactment, expected early 2016, it will be illegal to install a single skin oil tank either to a new dwelling or significantly to replace an existing installation. 

The main purpose of the new Regulations are to mandate that oil containers must be bunded within  the following timeframe. 
Timeframe  Application
   
Immediate  New Domestic Installations 
  Replacement of Existing Installations
  New Commercial Installations 
  New Agricultural Installations 
   
2 years (Q1 2018) Existing Commercial Installations (where tank is within 10m of an inland or coastal water source) 
  Existing Agricultural Installations (where the tank is within 10m of an inland or coastal water source)
   
4 years (Q1 2020)  All Existing Commercial Applications 
  All Existing Agricultural Applications
